When Cinema gets to Work for the Climate
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Greenpeace and the 50th edition Hong Kong French Film Festival, the organisations join hands to present the program “Cinema for the Climate” from November 24th - December 14th, 2021.
Greenpeace East Asia and the festival have co-curated a selection of four documentaries, Above Water (Marcher sur l’eau), Animal, Bigger than us, and Legacy (Legacy, notre héritage) with a mission to raise environmental awareness through cinema. These documentaries feature voices and stories of young climate campaigners and shine a light on issues such as climate change and the collapse of biodiversity.
The Hong Kong French Film Festival is proud to co-present the screening of Animal on 4 Dec together with a post-screening talk with the world-renowned NGO Greenpeace (East Asia). We are more than delighted to have invited Dr Benoit Guénard, the director of the Hong Kong Biodiversity Museum and Tom Ng, Campaigner from Greenpeace, to share their views on climate, biodiversity and conservation issues. As an associate professor at HKU School of Biological Sciences (SciFac), Dr Guénard is specialised in ant species, managing one of the first and largest global databases on arthropod distribution. He is dedicated to promoting biodiversity in Hong Kong.
2021年為國際綠色和平成立50週年，同時亦是第50屆香港法國電影節。適逢兩間機構的半世紀週年，攜手合作為今屆電影節策映「氣候變化實錄」，並於2021年11月24日至12月14日展映。
綠色和平與電影節共同策映四部紀錄片：《水上行》（Marcher sur l'eau）、《動物：生命之匙》（Animal）、《茲事體大》（Bigger than us） 、和 《寶貴的承傳》（Legacy，notre Héritage），希望通過電影提高公眾的環保意識。這些紀錄片透過年輕氣候活動家的故事，揭示了氣候變化和生物多樣性崩潰等問題。
香港法國電影節將聯同綠色和平合作舉辦《動物：生命之匙》（Animal）放映會暨映後座談會，並邀請了香港生物多樣性博物館總監Dr. Benoit Guénard與綠色和平項目主任伍漢林與大家分享氣候、保育、生物多樣性等議題。Dr. Guénard是香港大學生物科學學院副教授，專注研究螞蟻，同時為宣揚香港生物多樣性不遺餘力。
