Special Events with AFP
We are very glad to bring live Q&A sessions and special event to this edition of Hong Kong French Film Festival in partnership with Agence France-Presse (AFP). There will be post screening live Q&A sessions for - Sympathy For The Devil, Camille and Looking For Gilles Caron with Vincent Amalvy, Philippe Massonnet and Anthony Wallace from AFP.

Director導演: Guillaume de Fontenay
Guillaume de Fontenay began his career as an actor and assistant director for Carbone 14 and O Vertigo. He then founded his theater company, Ex-Voto. His rigorous, meticulous filmmaking work has earned him international awards. His short film Le Retour Tryptique was sold to TV5 and TFO by Vidéographe and was selected by SODEC to be presented at Clermont-Ferrand and at various festivals in Quebec, Italy and the United States. From 2005, de Fontenay set out to direct his first feature film, Sympathy for the Devil, inspired by the story of war journalist Paul Marchand during the siege of Sarajevo. Sympathy for the Devil was presented in 2019-2020 in various International Film Festivals where it has won 18 awards/ been honored 18 awards and nominations.
Guillaume de Fontenay曾在法國文化節目Carbone 14 及現代舞蹈團O Vertigo擔任演員及助理導演，期後創立劇團Ex-Voto。他嚴謹及細膩的電影作品榮獲多項國際獎項，TV5及TFO (加拿大法語教育電視頻道) 更買了他執導的短片《Le Retour Tryptique》，該片同樣受到SODEC (加拿大魁北克省政府文化部門)青睞，獲推薦參與魁北克省、意大利、美國等地區的電影節。2005年，他開始著手製作第一部長片《魔鬼的代言人》—— 靈感來自戰地記者Paul Marchand在薩拉熱窩圍城的故事。影片在多個國際電影節大獲好評，並奪得18項獎項及提名。
Guest Speaker 嘉賓講者: Vincent Amalvy
Vincent Amalvy has been Agence France-Presse Asia-Pacific Photo editor-in chief since 2017. He is also Head of the Special Operation for AFP. After joining AFP in 1990 as a photo reporter, he covered numerous conflicts, including the war in the former Yugoslavia and the siege of Sarajevo, the first Gulf war and the genocide in Rwanda.

Director 導演: Boris Lojkine
After shooting two documentary films in Vietnam about the memory of the war (Ceux qui restent in 2001 and Ames Errantes in 2005), Boris Lojkine changes continent to immerse himself in the Africa of migrants and directed Hope, his first fiction, with non-professional actors met in Morocco among migrant communities. Hope was shown and awarded at the 2014 Cannes Critics Week and many other international festivals. Boris Lojkine then directed Camille, his second fiction movie in the Central African Republic. The film won the Piazza Grande Audience Award in Locarno in 2019.
Boris Lojkine曾執導兩部有關越南戰爭回憶的紀錄片—《Ceux qui restent》(2001)、《Ames Errantes》(2005)，其後醉心於非洲移民題材並製作首部劇情片《Hope》(2014)，片中角色由摩洛哥移民社區中的非專業演員擔當。《Hope》不但在各大國際電影節中亮相，更於2014年康城影展國際影評人週(Critics Week)得獎。在中非共和國攝製的《Camille》為Lojkine的第二部劇情片，榮獲2019年瑞士盧卡諾影展Piazza Grande大獎。

Post screening Q&A Session - Looking For Gilles Caron (Histoire d un regard)
Philippe Massonnet has been Agence France-Presse Asia Pacific Regional Director since 2015, based in Hong Kong. He was Global News Director of AFP from 2009-2014. Graduated from Strasbourg Journalism School and the National Institute of Oriental Languages in France, he is a specialist of China where he started his career as a freelance journalist mid-80’s before joining Agence France-Presse. As a young reporter for AFP he covered the conflicts in Rwanda and Zaïre.
Philippe Massonnet於2009至2014年間為法新社環球新聞總監，2015年起出任亞太區總監。Philippe畢業於史特拉斯堡大學新聞系學院及法國國立東方語言文化學院，他於80年代中開始以自由新聞工作者在中國開展他的事業，後來加入法新社，工作初期曾報導盧旺達及薩伊 (剛果民主共和國的前身) 的國內衝突。

Guest Speaker 嘉賓講者: Vanessa Franklin & Xavier Mahe
Anthony Wallace has been AFP’s Hong Kong Bureau chief photographer since June 2016. Prior to this he was a photo editor at the Asia Pacific photo desk. He has a MA in Documentary Photography and Photojournalism from LCC, University of the Arts London.
Aside from covering news events in Hong Kong, his AFP work has involved numerous overseas assignments in the Asia-Pacific region, including the Christchurch mosque shootings in New Zealand, the DPRK Singapore Summit, the funeral of King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, earthquakes in Taiwan and major sporting tournaments, including the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and Jakarta Asian Games.
This year he won the Ville de Perpignan Rémi Ochlik Award from the 2020 Visa pour l’Image festival, the Human Rights Press Award for photography 2020, Prix Bayeux 2020 Public Choice Award and was a recipient of the SOPA Awards along with his fellow AFP Photo team members, for his coverage of the unrest last year in Hong Kong.
Vanessa Franklin and Xavier Mahe set up Boogie Woogie Photography in 2016. Vanessa Franklin is a French photographer. After graduating from l'Ecole des Gobelins, she started a prolific career as a commercial and portrait photographer in Paris and London. With a career spanning over two decades in French institutions, Xavier Mahe aims to foster cultural exchanges. He was appointed General Manager of Le French May Arts Festival in 2019.
