Every film we chose for the 2023 French Film Festival was fantastic! Choosing the best one becomes increasingly challenging.
This is the list of the five festival exclusives that we would choose if we had to narrow the selection down to just 15 highlighted films.
On the Wandering Paths [Sur les chemins noirs]
Academy Award-winner Jean Dujardin stars in an inspirational story based on real events. The film is based on the award-winning autobiography by Sylvain Tesson – who also appears in the documentary, The Velvet Queen – ON THE WANDERING PATHS is a meditative story of healing, resilience, and reconnection to nature and deep self.
The Goldman Case [Le Procès Goldman]
The Goldman Case, Cédric Kahn’s 13th feature film, has opened the 55th Directors' Fortnight (as part of the 76th Cannes Film Festival), The story is based on a real case from the 1970s, the courtroom drama The Goldman Case tells the story of a trial that divided France.
The Book of Solutions [Le Livre des solutions]
The 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' director, Michel Gondry's new movie is finally here! The film is a comedy about a filmmaker trying to overcome creative demons.
The President’s Wife [Bernadette]
Renowned for her stuffy, old world attitude, the wife of former French president Jacques Chirac gets the comedic treatment in "Bernadette", starring Catherine Deneuve as the eponymous first lady. The film is said to be based on real events during the Chiracs’ tenure at the Élysée between 1995 and 2007.
Mars Express
Sci-fi thriller “Mars Express” offers an uncommon spin on modern anxieties — particularly when it comes to AI. French director Jérémie Périn’s excellent first feature film which was unveiled in the Cannes Film Festival’s Cinéma de la Plage line-up.
